Cats (1981 Original London Cast)

25th Anniversary edition of ‘Cats’ prowls into St. Louis’ Fabulous Fox December 27-31

ST. LOUIS, MO / November 10, 2006 – The 25th Anniversary Tour of America’s favorite family musical CATS is coming to the Fox Theatre for a limited one-week engagement December 27-31 as a special offering of the U.S. Bank Broadway Series.

Curtain times are Wednesday at 1 & 7:30 p.m.; Thursday at 7:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday at 1 & 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Andrew Lloyd Webber, the master of musical theatre, is celebrating 25 years of the wonder of CATS!  Before “Phantom of the Opera,” CATS exploded onto the stage as the first megamusical.  On May 11, 1981, CATS opened at the New London Theatre in the West End becoming the longest-running musical in the history of British theatre.

In 1982, CATS opened at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York and became the longest-running musical in Broadway history in 1997.  CATS ended its 18-year run on Broadway on September 10, 2000.

Who says cats only have nine lives?  In October 1991, CATS became the longest continuously touring show in American theatre history.  Five continents, 26 countries, over eight and a half million audience members, and 25 years later, CATS is still revolutionary and awe-inspiring.

Based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possom’s Book of Practical Cats, CATS has won seven Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Costumes.  The combination of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s upbeat score and Eliot’s whimsical poetry has captured the attention of a younger generation of theater-goers, and made CATS a multi-generational musical.  Memorable songs from the show include “Mr. Mistoffelees,” “The Invitation to the Jellicle Ball” and the signature hit “Memory.

Ticket prices for CATS range from $52-$18.  Tickets are on sale now at the Fox Theatre box office and all MetroTix locations.  To charge by phone, call MetroTix at 314/534-1111 or order online at www.metrotix.com.  Groups of 20 or more, call 314/535-2900.  For more information, visit www.fabulousfox.com.  CATS is a special offering of the U.S. Bank Broadway Series and sponsored by American Airlines.
