SeniorLAW Center celebrates National Older Americans Month

PHILADELPHIA, May 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SeniorLAW Center, a Philadelphia-based non-profit organization protecting the legal rights of older Pennsylvanians, this week kicked off its May Month of Service in celebration of National Older Americans Month.

Service projects are taking place throughout the month in the Philadelphia area and beyond, and serve a particular population, community, or critical legal issue.

"As thousands of our elderly clients strive to survive our country's economic crisis on low fixed incomes, this year we are devoting all of our time, energy, and resources to bringing services directly to seniors who need them now more than ever before," said Karen Buck, Esq., Executive Director, SeniorLAW Center.

PECO is sponsoring the Latino Elders Health Care Planning and the Protect Your Independence projects.

On May 14th, the Latino Elders Health Care Planning will bring volunteer attorneys and interpreters to serve Latino elders in their own language and communities in North Philadelphia.

The Protect Your Independence project educating seniors on advance planning will take place at Journey's Way in Roxborough on May 21st.

Later this month, Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP is sponsoring a Save Your Home workshop for older homeowners facing foreclosure, tax and other housing problems at Philadelphia Senior Center.

In addition, Fox Rothschild, LLP is sponsoring services of the Pennsylvania SeniorLAW HelpLine, and Pepper Hamilton, LLP is sponsoring efforts to help seniors stop abuse and financial exploitation.

In these challenging economic times, SeniorLAW Center's unique approach to its annual fundraiser efforts provides sponsors with an opportunity to direct 100% of their financial support to the critical events benefiting older Pennsylvanians in need.

Major sponsors for this year's Month of Service include PECO, Fox Rothschild, Linebarger, Goggan Blair & Sampson, Pepper Hamilton, and Anonymous.

Additional sponsors include ASTM International, Reed Smith, Stephen Wilensky and Eileen Maloney Wilensky, Blank Rome, Stradley Ronon, Feldman, Shepherd, Wohlgelernter, Tanner & Weinstock, Bravo Health, and PCA.

Companies, foundations, law firms and individuals interested in supporting SeniorLAW Center's month of service and being a part of its outreach and impact can call 215-701-3201 or visit www.seniorlawcenter.org.

About SeniorLAW Center

SeniorLAW Center protects the legal rights and interests of seniors in need, providing free legal services, community legal education, professional training, advice, information and referral services, and advocacy to over 10,000 older Pennsylvanians each year.
