One could tell that the performance of
‘Rain’ at The Fabulous Fox was going to be
something special just by looking around the
audience.
The crowd had younger people, mingled among
groups of older people, and a more than fair
sprinkling of those, such as myself, who
were being born when the guys from Liverpool
first landed on American shores to launch an
era that continues to influence the musical
scene today.
The evening is a ‘must-see’ for anyone
interested in the history of music groups.
While we can listen to the recordings of
the original group and see films of them
going through their various stages,
including the quirkiness of the psychedelic
era, there is something about seeing a
tribute show that has worked so hard to
capture the essence of the Beatles’ music.
In an earlier interview with Publisher
Daniel Hines, Joe Bithorn stressed that the
group realizes that the members are
‘playing’ a role and are not the genuine
article.
That may be true, but, especially on the
solo numbers by the various members of the
group, it was almost as though the spirit of
the Beatles had been channeled into the
performers, providing the atmosphere that
made the performance special.
The mood was also heavily—and
favorably—influenced by the use of the
multi-media , multi-dimensional backdrop
complete with historical video footage from
the and other stages.
The production makes wonderful use of the
vast Fabulous Fox stage, utilizing 5
different scene and costume changes, 3 video
screens, and live camera projection.
The impact was to bring the audience
completely into the show. This undoubtedly
was due to the fact that there is no taped
music…this is all live.
This result is a show of complete excitement
and entertainment, the type of individual
show production that The Fox does so well.
There was only one problem—knowing that the
show was only going to be in town for two
nights of performance.
So, our advice is to be ready for the next
time this group returns. It may be a couple
of years, but let’s hope not.
