Fabulous Fox 75th Birthday seniors entertainment TodaysSeniorsNetwork.comFabulous Fox celebrates its 75th with 'Street Angel' August 1...1929 prices, mood

The Fabulous Fox Theatre is thrilled to be celebrating its 75th Anniversary this year.   To mark the occasion of its Diamond Jubilee, the Fox will recreate the lavish and spectacular 11-act program that originally dazzled thousands of patrons on January 31, 1929 .  This elaborate reenactment featuring William Fox’s classic masterpiece Street Angel, starring Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell accompanied by Stan Kann on the mighty Wurlitzer organ, will take place on Sunday, August 1.   Show times are 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.    The public is invited to attend at 1929 prices.  For this day only, parking will be free!

In order to recreate the excitement on Grand Avenue from 1929, Producer Mary Strauss is encouraging all movie patrons to come to Street Angel in vintage attire for an on-stage costume parade.  Special guests and dignitaries will be arriving in vintage vehicles provided by the St. Louis Classic Car Club.  Patrons attending this special production will be welcomed not only by a red carpet at the front door, but by uniformed doorman attired in tails, top hats and gloves.  One writer described the original Fox crowd as “thousands of eager and amazed Americans, bobbed-haired women in wraps and evening gowns, clean shaven men in the severe black and white of evening clothes…”

The August 1st program is based on the original dedicatory script – complete with dignitaries, singers, dancers and live animals.  The program will begin with a rededication of the theatre by Patrick Murphy, the voice of KETC/Channel 9.  A living tableau of St. Louis , a tribute to its civic pride and progressive enterprise, narrated by Julius Hunter will feature J. Kim Tucci as Saint Louis and KMOX Radio’s Carol Daniel as the personification of new St. Louis .  This tableau adds another dimension to St. Louis ’ 2004 celebration this year.  Other acts include opera selections, chorus lines, ballet interpretations and a Neapolitan Festival, “a mood picture of gay old Naples .”

August 1st at the Fabulous Fox promises to be fun for the whole family!  The program is a nostalgic salute to the golden age of the movie palace and to St. Louis ’ most outstanding entertainment venue.  As the guest program from the 1929 Dedicatory Program stated:  This Theatre – for all that it is – and for all that it represents – is dedicated to the motion picture, to the art of the stage, to music and above all – to you.  Thank you, St. Louis !

All seats for the 75th Anniversary Celebration are general admission and the Fox is offering 1929 prices!  Tickets are only 75 cents at the Box Office and $1 at  MetroTix Outlets.   Tickets are on sale now!  For more information, please call MetroTix at 314/534-1111 or visit www.metrotix.com.
