Fabulous Fox schedules special events to launch 25th year

It is hard to imagine that 25 years have passed since the Fabulous Fox Theatre reopened its doors as a performing arts venue.  This year, we are thrilled to pay tribute to this St. Louis treasure as we celebrate our 25th Anniversary.  To mark the occasion, the Fox has created a weekend of activities to delight patrons of all ages.

On Friday, September 28 we are pleased to present for one night only Broadway’s Best: Linda Eder & Brian Stokes Mitchell as they celebrate the glories of the American musical live in concert at 8 p.m.  Linda Eder’s career is built on a solid Broadway base – she is perhaps best known for her role as Lucy Harris in “Jekyll & Hyde” – but her credits reach far beyond Broadway.

As her latest CD Linda Eder Greatest Hits demonstrates, Eder possesses one of the greatest contemporary solo voices of our time.  Eder takes the songs of such legends as Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland, and makes them her own.  From her moving rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” to the bold and sassy “Bring on the Men” – Eder’s voice takes wing and soars.   Dubbed “The Last Leading Man” by the New York Times, the incomparable Brian Stokes Mitchell has enjoyed a rich and varied career on Broadway, television and film.

A Tony Award® winner for “Kiss Me, Kate,” Mitchell has also received Tony  nominations for his performances in Broadway’s  “Man of La Mancha,” “Ragtime” and “King Hedley II.”  His latest venture is his self-titled CD which was released last year to rave reviews.  For more information on each artist, please visit www.lindaeder.com and www.brianstokes.com.  Special VIP seating is available at $100 for this concert and includes a celebratory post-show cocktail party with the stars.  Other tickets on the orchestra floor and mezzanine are $60 and balcony seats are $25.

On Saturday, September 29 the Fox will open its doors to the public offering free popcorn and soda and complimentary tours of the Theatre from 1-5 p.m. (including backstage!) and organ concerts with the legendary Stan Kann at the Mighty Wurlitzer.  Visitors can also register to win tickets to upcoming Fox events.

Sunday, September 30 celebrates “Fabulous Flicks” which is reminiscent of the early days when the Fox Theatre was known as St. Louis’ premier movie palace.  At 1 p.m. the Fox will screen the 1925 silent film classic “The Phantom of the Opera” starring Lon Chaney with musical accompaniment by Stan Kann on the Mighty Wurlitzer organ.  At 3 p.m the 1982 classic “E.T.,” which is also celebrating its silver anniversary will be screened.  The Fox wraps up movie day with the 2002 Academy Award®-winning musical version of “Chicago” at 6 p.m.  Each movie is only $5 for general admission seating and parking that day will be FREE!

Following the anniversary weekend, The Fox will continue the celebration with special pricing opportunities for two of our Broadway shows.  Tuesday, October 2 is the premiere of the Fox Theatre’s 2007-2008 U.S. Bank Broadway season with the opening night of “The Rat Pack – Live at the Sands” at 8 p.m.  This show recreates a legendary evening at the Sands Hotel with the most famous performers of our time:  Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Dean Martin.  We are pleased to offer anniversary special ticket pricing of $25 for all orchestra pits seating for this show, limited to two tickets per order while the supply lasts.

“Annie” is the timeless tale of Little Orphan Annie which features one of Broadway’s most memorable scores.  “Annie” returns to the Fox November 20-25.  We will offer special anniversary prices of $25 for all seats to the first three performances of the run – Tuesday, November 20 at 7:30 p.m., and Wednesday, November 21 at 1 & 7:30 p.m.

The Fox is also excited to announce the opening of a new exhibit at the Missouri History Museum highlighting its 25 fabulous years of entertainment!  The exhibit, which will include historical artifacts, a 20 minute film on the Fox, and much more will open September 7 and run through November 4.  The exhibit is free and open to the public.  For more information, visit www.mohistory.org.

Tickets for all of the 25th Anniversary events go on sale Friday, September 7 at 8 a.m. only at the Fox Theatre box office.  September 7 marks the date that the Fox re-opened with Barnum in 1982 and this year we are going to celebrate at the Fox box office with prizes, refreshments and the Fox Tellerettes chorus girls.  On Saturday, September 8, tickets for all anniversary events will go on sale at all MetroTix locations; by phone at 314/534-1111 or online at www.metrotix.com.
