Go Red For Women National Casting Call Event Alert!

Newswise — WHAT: The first-ever Go Red For Women National Casting Call, hosted by Marie Osmond.

“By joining the Go Red For Women movement and sharing my story of heart disease, I hope to increase awareness and spark action in others.” – Marie Osmond

WHEN: On February 1st, women will line up at the Shops at Columbus Circle, Time Warner Center, from 10am – 8pm EST to share their stories. Other casting calls will also be held across the country and stories can be submitted at http://www.GoRedForWomen.org starting Feb.1.

WHERE: National Casting Call Event Hosted By Marie Osmond: New York City
Date/Time: February 1st, 2008, 10am – 8pm EST
Venue: Shops at Columbus Circle, Time Warner Center (59th & Columbus Circle), on the 2nd floor. Highlights will include:

Macy’s red dress display of finalist designs from the Macy’s and American Heart Association Fashion Institute of Technology Red Dress Competition, makeup artists helping women find their perfect shade of red lipstick and a prize wheel with stylish giveaways

Free Cardiovascular Health Screening by Merck & Co. allowing women to know their values and assess their own risk of cardiovascular disease

WHY: Because women are the “Heart of the Go Red.” We believe that women can build awareness of this often preventable (but prevalent) disease and keep thousands of women from dying of heart disease each year by sharing their stories with one another.

“Many American women remain unaware that heart disease is their No. 1 killer, even though more than 42 million American women are living with one or more types of cardiovascular disease,” said Nieca Goldberg, M.D., Go Red For Women spokesperson, author and medical director of the New York University Women’s Heart Program.

“According to the most recent data, cardiovascular disease caused approximately one death per minute among females. That is why the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement seeks to build awareness of this deadly disease and challenge women to take action to reduce their personal risk.”

Alarming heart health statistics include:

One in three women has some form of cardiovascular disease.

Cardiovascular disease kills approximately 460,000 women per year.

More women die of cardiovascular disease than the next five causes of death combined, including cancer.

Additional Information: Visit http://www.GoRedForWomen.org  to submit stories online and for official casting call rules. The Go Red For Women movement is nationally sponsored by Macy’s and Merck & Co., Inc.
