Fox Theater presentation of ‘High School
Musical’ introduces a new generation to
excitement of theater
By Michelle Chase
There is only one way of describing what
happened with the presentation of Disney’s
“High School Musical” at the Fabulous Fox
Theater…fun and excitement.
And with that, The Fox likely has also
planted a valuable seed that will create
memories for a new generation similar to
that of many older people who recall with
such fondness the old days of the Fox.
Perhaps it was the magic moment of having
two truly historic forces come
together—Disney with its tradition of
outstanding family entertainment, and, of
course, the richness of the Fabulous Fox,
which accommodated the screams and sighs of
the audience that included many, many
preteens who seemed right at home.
There is a lot to feel good about with
productions of this type.
First is the opportunity for a younger
audience to be introduced to the excitement,
color and entertainment that can come only
from a live stage performance.
Remember, it’s a pretty sure bet that all of
the kids there had seen the movie (probably
more than once) but this production carries
an energy that is three-dimensional and
up-close, not merely images on a screen.
Next is the opportunity for a family
experience that is provided by “High School
Musical” that is directed at an audience
that is entering some pretty impressionable
years.
It reflects a development of recent years in
high schools in which someone other than the
high school jock or homecoming queen has
found that music, drama and talent come in a
variety of packages.
If you doubt it, take any opportunity you
can get to see the vast array of musical
talent that is coming forth in real high
school musicals across the nation.
A growing number of high schools of all
sizes are training and developing young
people in a way that is the underlying them
of “High School Musical.”
It’s also a reminder that even though an
older generation always seems to worry about
the ones coming behind them, there are a lot
of things to feel good about in our younger
citizens.
The Fox deserves kudos for helping bring it
to our attention, not only with “High School
Musical” but for presenting a production
that will personalize the theater-going
experience.
And, since this review is designed for
TodaysSeniorsNetwork.com, if you’re a
Grandparent wondering how to build a
relationship with your Grandchildren, it
would be a good idea to find out what they
like, check the schedule at The Fabulous Fox
(there are many shows that really can be
enjoyed by a family) and make a commitment
to share a really enjoyable experience with
them.
You might even find yourself humming some of
the songs the next day.
