Battle
of Midway veterans honored
at Navy Memorial in June
WASHINGTON, May 25 /PRNewswire/ --
On Friday, June 3 the veterans of the World War II Battle of Midway
will be honored for their commitment and sacrifices at the Navy
Memorial in Washington, D.C.
A ceremonial wreath laying will be
held outside on the Memorial for Midway veterans, and all veterans
of World War II and their families.
The ceremony begins at 11 a.m.
Rear Adm. Jan Cody Gaudio, USN, Commandant, Naval District
Washington, will host the ceremony with Navy Memorial President and
CEO Rear Adm. Richard A. Buchanan, USN, (Ret.). During the ceremony,
Admirals Gaudio and Buchanan will lay a wreath at The Lone Sailor
statue. The Lone Sailor is the Memorial's symbol that represents all
sea service members who have served and are serving in the sea
services -- Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine.
Adm. Robert F. Willard, USN, Vice
Chief of Naval Operations and Lt. Gen. Robert Magnus, USMC, Deputy
Commandant for Programs and Resources, Headquarters, U.S. Marine
Corps, are guest speakers for the event.
This is the 63rd anniversary of
the Battle of Midway which occurred from June 4 -7, 1942.
The Battle of Midway ceremony is
free and open to the public.
