Doris
Day Animal Foundation provides grant to
Lily's Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary to aid
Senior Dogs in Need
FOREST KNOLLS, Calif., Jan. 21,
2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Doris
Day Animal Foundation, a national non-profit
organization founded by the legendary
actress and animal welfare advocate, has
provided a grant to Lily's Legacy Senior Dog
Sanctuary of Forest Knolls, California, to
use for veterinary care for the senior large
breed dogs they rescue and care for.
"When we learned about Lily's Legacy and its
work with senior dogs, we knew we had to
help," Miss Day said from her home
in Carmel, California.
"We fund other charitable 501(c) (3)
non-profit organizations that perform
excellent work to help the animals and the
people who love them, and we're proud to be
able to help Lily's Legacy Senior Dog
Sanctuary also."
The grant will help Lily's Legacy Senior Dog
Sanctuary pay for veterinary expenses for 2
to 4 of our rescued dogs, depending on the
needs of the particular dogs. Medical needs
for senior dogs can be and often are
extensive and expensive says Alice Mayn,
Founder and Executive Director of Lily's
Legacy.
Many of our dogs have been neglected and/or
abused and come to us with infections or
injuries that require immediate care.
We endeavor to restore each dog's health so
he or she can enjoy life and be adopted into
a loving home. Veterinary expenses are, by
far, the largest item in our budget.
We would like to extend our heartfelt
appreciation to Doris
Day for her kindness and generosity in
helping us help these needy senior dogs.
Among the other grants Doris Day Animal
Foundation has provided are funding for
college scholarships, programs to aid senior
citizens care for their pets, programs for
rescue dogs, Kevlar vests for service dogs,
rescues of greyhounds, run-sheds for horses,
reduced adoption fees for seniors adopting
senior pets, wildlife sanctuary assistance,
and reduced cost spay/neuter programs as
well as a feral cat TNR program, to name but
a few.
