St. Louis recognized as Top Musical Theatre in Town
Stages St. Louis
was awarded a whopping
25 nominations
for the Kevin Kline Awards on January 19, making it the
second-highest recipient of total nominations and the top
recipient of nominations for a musical theatre in St. Louis
Recognizing outstanding achievement in Professional Theatre
in the Greater St. Louis Area, the Kevin
Kline Awards honor theatre artists and
productions in over 20 categories. Nominees were chosen from
a pool of more than 80 local productions presented during
the 2005 season.
All three of the STAGES 2005 mainstage productions --
Man of La Mancha, Footloose,
and
Hello, Dolly!
-- were nominated in the categories of "Outstanding
Production of a Musical" and "Outstanding Ensemble in a
Musical," and the family production of
Free to Be...You and Me
was nominated for "Outstanding Production for Young
Audiences."
STAGES Artistic Director
Michael Hamilton
received three nominations for "Outstanding Director of a
Musical" for his stagings of
Man of La Mancha,
Footloose,
and
Hello, Dolly!
STAGES' own Managing Director
Ron Gibbs
was also nominated for "Outstanding Director of a Musical"
for his work on
Jesus Christ Superstar
at The Muny.
Other STAGES nominations are for the categories of
Choreography, Costume Design, Lighting Design, Set Design,
Lead Actor in a Musical, Lead Actress in a Musical,
Supporting Actor in a Musical, and Supporting Actress in a
Musical.
