THE ULTIMATE DOO-WOP SHOW returns to the
Fabulous Fox Theatre on Saturday, November
17 at 8pm! Performers include Charlie
Thomas & The Drifters, The Flamingos, Jimmy
Beaumont & The Skyliners, The Crystals, Jack
Scott, The Reflections, The Shades of Blue,
The Eldorados and The Flat Cats. Ticket
prices are $67.50, $55, $42.50 & $32.50 and
are on sale now. Presented by KETC /
Channel 9.
Rock ‘n
Roll Hall of Famer, Charlie Thomas is one of
the great and legendary original leads of
The Drifters, known for songs such as
Sweets for my Sweet, When My Little Girl is
Smiling and Via Con Dio. Charlie
Thomas & The Drifters are easily one of the
most popular and timeless groups in all of
recording history. The group has had access
to the best songwriters – like Lieber &
Stoller, Burt Bacharach and Carole King.
Rock ‘n
Roll Hall of Fame inductees, The Flamingos,
features Terry Johnson – writer for I
Only Have Eyes for You and arranged all
the Flamingos’ hits. The group was the King
of the crooning groups with classics such as
Lovers Never Say Goodbye, I Only Have
Eyes for You, I’ll be Home and Golden
Teardrops.
Jimmy
Beaumont & The Skyliners were one of the
first groups to use full orchestration and
to write their own hits along with being one
of the first and few white groups to play
the famed Apollo Theatre. They were
featured in the PBS show, 50 Years of
Doo-Wop. Some of their classic hits
include Since I Don’t Have You, This I
Swear and Pennies from Heaven.
Jimmy is considered almost a deity in
Doo-Wop.
It was
with The Crystals that Phil Spector
originally developed his legendary “wall of
sound.” Gene Pitney wrote their #1 song,
He’s a Rebel and they went on to record
many other mega million sellers such as
Uptown, He’s sure the Boy I Love, Da Doo Ron
Ron and many more.
Making a
rare appearance in the United States, the
legendary Jack Scott has had more hits than
most anyone we have booked – My True
Love, Goodbye Baby, What in the World’s Come
Over You?, Leroy, Burning Bridges, etc.
He continues to entertain sold-out crowds in
Europe with his cross-over Rock-A-Billy /
Doo-Wop style.
The
Reflections are a powerful group with one of
those “oh wow” hits, taken from Shakespeare,
no less – Just Like Romeo & Juliet,
is too cool for school. Look out for their
lead signer, who sounds just like Jackie
Wilson.
One of
the great crop of Motown “Blue-Eyed Soul”
artists, The Shades of Blue featuring Nick
Maranelli have one of the most memorable
romantic ballads of the 60s with their Oh
How Happy million seller.
From the
Vee Jay roster of pioneering R&B groups, The
Eldorados were one of the early groups to
crossover from R&B to Pop with their own
compositions, Bim Bam Boom and
Crazy Little Mama (at my front door).
Historians claim Bim Bam Boom was one
of, if not, the first Rock ‘n Roll song. So
much so that a New York collectors magazine
titled their periodical, Bim Bam Boom.
The
swingin’ hipsters – The Flat Cats
are one of
Chicago’s most exciting musical acts. The
group is comprised of local musicians with
years of performing, arranging, and
composing experience and has a classic
appeal of top quality musicianship, look,
and spirit. The Flat Cats’ blend of vintage
and modern music including the hottest
swinging jazz, jump blues, steamy standards,
modern classics, ballads, and toe-tapping
western swing is guaranteed to entertain you
whether you choose to listen or you just
can’t avoid the dance floor!
