New survey finds wounded vets suffering from long-term intense pain
(Medialink) - More than half of veterans in pain said
they've been in pain for more than 10 years. Seventy-percent
rated the intensity of their daily pain between a 7 and a 10
(with 10 being the worst pain imaginable).
These are just some of the findings from a survey released
by the American Pain Foundation. Recent studies have linked
post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, panic
attacks and substance abuse to long term pain. This survey
also revealed that while the majority of veterans believe
emotional support is important, many of them don't receive
any emotional support at all for their pain.
Research has shown that treating pain aggressively from the start
can lead to a better outcome in terms of chronic pain.
